We visited Wendy Campbell of the very popular Camran Artisan Marshmallows Team in Co. Antrim.
Based in Ballycarry and set up by two friends both with a passion for producing high quality natural produce. Our children have additional needs and this led to a desire to develop a treat that they could enjoy and yet not be affected by additives and e numbers! They tasted so good that a new range was quickly developed that is now enjoyed not just by the children, but by adults too!
“Our sumptuous range uses only natural flavours and are hand made to perfection to tantalise your taste buds.
The majority of the marshmallows are gluten free and have a shelf life of 3 months whilst sealed and stored out of direct sunlight.’
Q: What makes your product unique?
A: The texture and flavours. We use all natural fresh products to create a very soft ‘melt in your mouth’ mallow.
Q: Where do you source your raw ingredients?
A: All ingredients are sourced locally, for example our chocolate comes from Wee ChoCo in Moneyreagh and our salted caramel sauce from Sprinkles & Crumbs in Co. Down.
Q: What inspires you as a producer?
A: Foremost our children. They are the inspiration behind what we do. Combined with a wee bit of madness and a joy from producing something that pleasantly surprises so many people, we continue to strive to create different flavoured perfect little mallow bites for everyone.
Q: How did you get started?
A: Producing natural confectionery for our children, to meet their need for a treat that was soft, artificial free and tasted delicious. Once we had the texture right, it was then about creating new and exciting flavours that both children and adults can enjoy.
Q: Why do you think it’s important to keep local?
A: Supporting local trade keeps our communities strong both financially and socially. We have an amazing array of talent around us and it would be a shame if that all went elsewhere because we didn’t recognise and support it.
Q: What motto do you live/work by?
A: All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.

Q: What food best compliments your product? Or what is your favourite way of using your product?
A: Gin & Tonic with our Gin range, Prosecco with the Strawberry & Champagne, top a hot chocolate with a Mocha mallow or make s’mores with our Salted Caramel ones. Use them to make quick frosting for cakes, or top off smoothies.
“Our Orange, Mango & Gin mallow has won the final of the Irish Food & Quality Awards Small Producer of the Year event held in Dublin. Our Strawberry & Champagne mallow has made it to the finals of Blas na hEireann this year and results will be revealed at the end of September.”
