Michelle specialises in creating high quality, bespoke drawings and paintings of animals and beloved pets.  Today we chat to her to find out how she got started and what inspires her work.

  1. Did you always want to be an artist? How did you get started?

I always enjoyed art but didn’t pursue a career in art. I was a civil servant and one day on my lunch break I picked up a biro and a sheet of paper and drew a horse. Someone seen it and commissioned their own piece. This started the ball rolling and in 2016 I became an artist full time.

  1. Who or what inspires you as an artist?

I always loved beryl cook and Salvador Dali. As I’ve developed my own style I now love to look at photorealism artists such as Paul Cadden. I strive to make my pieces look as alive as possible!

  1. Have any other artists been influential in your work?

Any piece that I can look at and think ‘wow’ inspires me!

  1. What makes your pieces unique?

I’ve been told the way I capture the animals eyes makes my work stand out. I usually start with the eyes in every piece. They are the windows to the soul and its vital I capture the personality of the animal!

  1. Is there a specific technique that you use?

It’s all about the layers! I never really know what mediums I will use when I begin. I like to use mixed mediums in my pieces to get the result I’m after.

  1. Do you have a favourite material that you work with?

My favourite would have to be pencils. Both professional grade coloured pencils and soft pastels. I love the control I have with them.

  1. Do you have a favourite pieces or one that you are most proud of?

At present its Lumi the cat! However I’m happy with the zebra I did for Love Your Home Show.

  1. Where can we buy your work?

Contact me via my social media pages, website or at a show!
