After reading the reviews and hearing all the fabulous candle names, like Handbags and Gladrags, Keep Er Lit and Dragon’s Blood, we could not wait to chat to Bangor maker, Jonny Noise to find out more…..
Did you always want to be an artist? How did you get started?

I got started as I got fed up buying expensive candles that didn’t live up to expectations so I decided to try making some of my own and a few years later it became a business

Who or what inspires you as an artist?

I’m constantly inspired by my fellow crafters and the wide range of talent that is in N Ireland, we are very lucky here to have some amazing creatives and artisans

What makes your pieces unique?

My fragrances are inspired by the sights, sounds and smells of the City of Belfast and the Island of Ireland.

Is there a specific technique that you use?

There are a couple of very specific techniques that I have learnt over the years that help create the quality of my products

Do you have a favourite material that you work with?

All the wax I use is a natural soy wax which is sustainable, vegan friendly and kosher. Its also clean burning and burns for longer than the equivalent paraffin wax which is used by some of the larger candle companies. With our candles you won’t get the soot or smoke that comes with the paraffin ones.

What projects are you currently working on?

Always working on new ideas and scents and currently putting together our Christmas range

Do you have a favourite pieces or one that you are most proud of?

I have a few favourites but the one that means most to me is Uncle Matts Garden. As a child I visited my Uncle Matt every Sunday afternoon and helped pick some Rhubarb from his back garden.

Where can we buy your work?

I attend craft fairs and markets around the country so am normally close to somewhere. Also our candles are stocked in The Gobbins Visitor Centre, Belfast Cathedral, Down Cathedral, Love Love Designs in Ballynahinch and Ballywalter Tea & Craft Room. Hopefully they’ll ne available in more locations soon.
