Today we caught up with Emma Campbell of Emma Campbell Art. Emma is an Irish artist whose roots derive from a mixture of contemporary and Abstract art, you will find her work right in the middle, combining these two styles together. While painting her eclectic pieces for exhibition and gallery work she also works on a commission basis creating one of a kind individual paintings.
1. Did you always want to be an artist? How did you get started?
Ever since I could first hold a paint brush, as a small child I adored art and everything about it. Painting and creating is such a pure form of energy, that when channelled it can have an amazing effect on both the Artist and the Art lover.
2. Who or what inspires you as an artist?
In a busy world of hustle an bustle sometimes we need to remove ourselves from it and focus on the simple things, or little things in life that matter. For me, that is the beauty of nature, the colour and textures it provides and the feeling or emotion it can create. To capture that in colour and tell a story through a painting is something that is my passion and a part of who I am.
3. Have any other artists been influential in your work?
Many Artists I adore but one that had a particular influence on me throughout my life of painting is a gentleman called Leonid Afremov. He is a Russian impressionistic artist with amazing use of colour and bold impressionist brush strokes and palette knifing. Also Claude Monet who helped found a wonderful basis for impressionism and modern day art.
4. What makes your pieces unique?
Colour ! I Just cant talk about colour enough, it is my absolute everything about painting that I love. I try to capture each painting firstly through colour and texture and in turn let it tell its own story.
5. Is there a specific technique that you use?
I mix my painting style using both palette knife and brush strokes which can in turn give good depth in the over all painting. I mix a lot of the colours myself to get exactly the colour tones I need for a piece.
6. Do you have a favourite material that you work with?
Acrylic Paint is my medium I work with.
7. What projects are you currently working on?
I have a current working studio in Kilmeague, Naas, Co. Kildare in which I both work a sell from.
I am a resident Artist in the Gaslamp Gallery, Gorey Co. Wexford.
8. Do you have a favourite pieces or one that you are most proud of?
I have a few favourite paintings one of which I have the original hanging in my own home called “The Peony Rose”.
9. Where can we buy your work?
I sell my work from my working studio and also online through my website www.emmacampbellart.com or my Facebook page where you can contact me directly.
